Your Account
To obtain an account on whiteout, the SGI Altix 4700 compute server, download an application form, fill it in, and return to Jason Roberts at Box 37.

Once you have obtained an account you will be sent an initial email containing brief instructions and your account details (username and password).
If you are connecting for the first time, you will need to change your password. This is easily done with the "passwd" command. (please note that "$username@whiteout:~>" is the command prompt supplied by the interactive shells in all these examples. You will not need to type it in)
$username@whiteout:~> passwd

Accounting
There is no accounting at this time.
Email
Email sent to your local whiteout account will be automatically forwarded to your university account. If you wish to change this, modify your .foward file in your ~ home directory. Please confirm this address is correct as you will not receive an error message.
Possible sources of emails are:
- /scratch over use
- job information from PBS
- cron jobs (output or failures)
