Global Ocean Modelling: Parameterizing mesoscale eddies - six month averaged surface velocity field in the region 71S-52S, 75E-93E.
Climate Change Research: Variations of the Earth's surface temperature (from the IPCC Third Assessement Report).
To develop numerical models for high performance computers with reference to the oceans, atmosphere, Antarctic Ice Sheet and the environment. To establish nationally and internationally recognised courses in the application of high performance computer modelling and visualisation of numerical models.
Principal Expertise Projects:
- Implementation of optimised high resolution models of ice sheet and ice shelves in Antarctica.
- New high-resolution scenarios of the impact of global change on Antarctica.
- Revised parameterisation schemes of mixing in ocean models.
- Implementation of new assimilation schemes for forecasting ocean currents and seasonal climate.
- New high resolution models for static and dynamic fields in a magnetic resonance imaging.
- Enhanced resolution models for high speed ferry design.
